Longtime Silver Spring Doctor Passed away at age 88

Dr. Jason "Jack" Geiger is survived by wife of 66 years.

Jason “Jack” Geiger, of Rockville died at age 88 on Nov. 14  at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. Geiger practiced medicine in Silver Spring for more than 45 years, and is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gertrude Friedman Geiger, five children, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Geiger earned a medical degree from George Washington University in 1945 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy before opening his practice in Silver Spring in 1950. Dr. Geiger served as president of the Maryland chapter of the American Heart Association, as well as the Montgomery County Heart Association. Outside of practicing medicine, Geiger was a docent at the National Museum of Health and Medicine, an amateur aviator and the co-owner of a small airplane.

Public to Bid Farewell to Schaefer Next Week

William Donald Schaefer will lie in repose in the State House in Annapolis on Monday and in the Baltimore City Hall rotunda on Monday evening and Tuesday. His funeral is scheduled for next Wednesday.

The body of former Gov. William Donald Schaefer, who died Monday at the age of 89, will take a tour of Baltimore landmarks next week before he is laid to rest. Schaefer, who helped revitalize the city, will visit Harborplace, the National Aquarium and the stadiums, said Michael Golden, who served as Schaefer's press secretary in Annapolis. Schaefer will lie in repose from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, in the State House rotunda. The casket will then be transported to Baltimore, passing several of the city's landmarks associated with his four terms as mayor. A complete list of landmarks will be released later today, Golden said. Schaefer's casket is expected to arrive at City Hall at 5 p.m. Monday, where it will lie in repose until 9 …

William Donald Schaefer Leaves 'Do It Now' Legacy on Maryland Politics

UPDATE (8:30 a.m.)—William Donald Schaefer—Baltimore's legendary former mayor, Maryland governor and state comptroller—died Monday at around 6:30 p.m. in his bed at the Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville, according to his longtime friend Lainy M. LeBow-Sachs. "I was with him holding his hand," LeBow-Sachs told Patch. "He couldn't speak." Schaefer, 89, was released from the hospital earlier this month after a five-day stay for pneumonia and returned to Charlestown, where Maryland's 58th governor has lived for three years.
