VIDEO: Cabin John Tai Chi Court Grand Opening

Saturday, Montgomery County’s first tai chi court was dedicated at the Cabin John Regional Park in Bethesda.

The court was built in memory of Rockville resident and Wu Wei Tai Chi Club founder David Chen, who passed away in 2005. Chen practiced tai chi in Cabin John park every week for 12 years before his passing, according to a Parks Department press release. His friends, students and fellow practitioners kept the tradition alive following his death, and spearheaded the construction of the court in his memory.

The court, 48 feet in diameter and located at 7400 Tuckerman Lane, was funded through the Parks Department, state bond funds and private donations, the Washington Examiner reported.
