Suburban Hospital Victim Died From Stab Wounds
Preliminary results of autopsy confirm Roosevelt Brockington Jr.'s death a homicide due to stab wounds.
Update, Jan. 3, 9:50 a.m.: Preliminary results of the autopsy of Roosevelt Brockington, Jr., a Suburban Hospital employee, confirm that he died from stab wounds, according to Montgomery County police.
Detectives believe that it is more likely that this was not a random act of violence. The motive for the murder remains under investigation. Detectives are not ruling out any possibility, but will focus on who might have had a reason to harm Brockington.
Brockington, 40, of the 11200 block of Sitting Bull Circle in Lusby, Md., had been employed at Suburban Hospital since August 2006.
Update, 2:20 p.m.: Roosevelt Brockington, Jr., the victim of an apparent homicide at Suburban Hospital Saturday, was a lead engineer in the hospital's plan operations department, hospital spokeswoman Ronna Borenstein-Levy wrote in an e-mail to Patch.
Brockington was responsible for maintaining the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems at the hospital, according to Borenstein-Levy and a hospital news release.
Citing the ongoing police investigation, Borenstein-Levy wrote that the hospital isn't releasing further information at this time.
"Despite the heroic efforts of the hospital's emergency response team, attempts to resuscitate the employee were not successful," read the news release. "He died at the hospital as a result of traumatic injuries sustained to his upper body."
The hospital is fully functional Sunday and is open to patients and visitors, according to the release.
Update, Jan. 2, 10:30 a.m.: Montgomery County police have identified the victim found dead at Suburban Hospital Saturday as Roosevelt Brockington, Jr., 40, of the 11200 block of Sitting Bull Circle in Lusby, Md.
Brockington had been employed at Suburban since August of 2006, according to police. He was found around 10:30 a.m. Saturday in a non-patient care area of the hospital suffering from trauma to his upper body. Despite on-scene rescue efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police media release.
Police are investigating the death as a homicide.
After a lockdown of the hospital for several hours Saturday and a thorough search of the building, police haven't yet located a suspect. Saturday, police said they believed the suspect had left the area. Police don't have a description to release and are investigating the motive for the homicide.

This is the first homicide in Montgomery County in 2011. There were 17 homicides investigated by Montgomery County Police in 2010, according to county police.
Update, 3:20 p.m.: A 40-year-old male Suburban Hospital employee was found dead in a non-patient care area, Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Lucille Baur said.
The victim suffered trauma to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hospital spokeswoman Ronna Borenstein said the employee had worked at Suburban since 2006.
Because the investigation is ongoing, Baur could not confirm or deny whether the victim was stabbed and could not give details of how the body was discovered. She said police are conducting the suspicious death as a homicide investigation.
Baur said the body will be transported to the medical examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
Police have not released the victim's name. Baur said they are in the process of notifying his family.
The hospital has been thoroughly searched, and the suspect is believed to have left the vicinity, Baur added.
Police do not have a suspect description or information to provide.
Borenstein said that in her 14 years on staff, this incident marks the first time an employee has been assaulted and killed at the 222-bed hospital.
Update, 2:57 p.m.: The hospital's Emergency Room has reopened.
Update, 2:48 p.m.: Visitors are now allowed to exit the building, according to a statement released by the hospital. The Emergency Room will be reopened soon.
Update, 2:41 p.m.: The lockdown at Suburban Hospital has ended. The press briefing has started.
Update, 2:26 p.m.: Hospital spokeswoman Susan Laine said that there will be a briefing on the incident in about 10 minutes, and that the hospital will be reopening soon.

Update, 2:14 p.m.: The hospital is still on lockdown and patients and staff are safe, according to a statement released by the hospital.
Update, 2:05 p.m.: All Suburban Hospital employees should report to work for their scheduled shift today, said Susan Laine, hospital director of communications. Police will check hospital identification upon arrival.
In a further update, the medical examiner has arrived at the hospital.
Update, 1:25 p.m.: A Suburban Hospital employee was assaulted on site, according to a statement released by the hospital.
The hospital is still on lockdown. The emergency room is closed and visitors and patients should not attempt to enter Suburban Hospital until further notice.
Two of the police canine units are leaving the building.
Update, 12:49 p.m.: Police are telling people that they won't be able to enter Suburban Hospital because of the lockdown situation.
At the main entrance, there are more than 10 police vehicles. Police also have canine units on the scene.
Update, 12:44 p.m.: Suburban Hospital is still in lockdown status, according to Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Lucille Baur.
Police continue to investigate a suspicious death that was called in at 10:29 a.m..
New patients are being diverted to other area hospitals, Baur said. Family members are asked to wait until the lockdown status is lifted to visit patients.
Baur added that current employees and patients at the hospital are safe.
Police are stationed at various entrance points to the hospital. One police car is currently blocking the hospital entrance at Lincoln Street and Old Georgetown Road.
Update, 11:33 a.m.: Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Lucille Baur said there has been a suspicious death on the grounds of Suburban Hospital. Police have not yet determined whether it was a stabbing.
The hospital is still on lockdown.
Original Post, Jan. 1, 11:06 a.m.: Montgomery County Police are investigating a possible stabbing at Suburban Hospital Saturday morning. Police believe the incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. on New Year's Day.
