Police Continue to Analyze Evidence in Lululemon Attack as Family Mourns Victim
Funeral services are planned for Jayna Murray this weekend in Texas.
Police are still in the process of analyzing evidence recovered at the Lululemon store, the scene of a violent Friday attack during which two masked men beat and sexually assaulted two female employees – one fatally.
Jayna Murray, 30, was killed, and another 27-year-old victim is recovering.
“This is a very serious crime,” said Capt. Paul Starks, a spokesman for Montgomery County Police. “We have a lot of people looking at it, and we have a lot of material and sources of potential evidence to review and prioritize and see if it’s of any value. We are asking for a little understanding as we analyze what we have and then go forward.”
Starks said police canvassed businesses in the area Sunday to see if anyone had any surveillance footage that could be of use for the investigation. He said he believed that police had recovered some surveillance footage from the area, but it remained unclear how helpful it would be to the investigation.
The Lululemon store remains off-limits to the public, and police have not yet turned the store back over to the Lululemon corporation, Starks said.
Police haven’t ruled out that the crime may have been a random one. Though it remains unclear what the suspect’s motive may have been, “these two suspects came to the area with some kind of preparation. They brought masks and gloves, and they used them,” Starks said.
Meanwhile, friends and family are beginning to plan memorial services and tributes for Murray. Funeral services are planned to take place Friday in Texas, where her family lives.
Visitation will be held in the chapel at Forest Park the Woodlands in the Woodlands, Texas, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, according to a memorial Facebook page set up in Murray’s honor. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at Forest Park the Woodlands at 10 a.m. Saturday. Condolences for the family can be left online at the funeral home’s website.
The family is also in the process of setting up a memorial foundation for Murray, according to the Facebook page, entitled “In Memory of Jayna Murray.” Locally, friends are planning to gather at a bar Friday evening, and a Bethesda run/walk is also being planned in Murray’s memory.
“The best and the brightest has left us with a hole that will not be filled,” wrote one family member on the memorial Facebook page. “We celebrate you, Jayna, but we are devastated without you.”

This is truly a heartbreaking and senseless loss. As a Bethesda resident who is about the same age as Jayna, I am concerned about the safety of our community. Are there self defense classes being taught in the area? Neighborhood watches? What can we do?

I found a place in Germantown. I don't know if it's too out of the way for you but they have received great reviews. Search Evolve Academy Germantown.

I believe people who were in the area that night need to sit down and talk with each other and think about anything that comes to mind about that evening.
Did you happen to see a 6 ft tall man walking with a much shorter man maybe 5ft 3in at all during your time out? Maybe on the street? In the bar? Eating in a restaurant?
Did you happen to park behind those stores, or notice anything strange about the cars entering and exiting the lot?
Something you may think is normal, in this case most likely is not. Don't be afraid to come forward, even if you think it's nothing. That small nothing could mean the difference in capturing the evil people that took away this poor woman's life with no regard. They need to be caught, and they need to be brought to justice soon. For the victim, for the family and for the community.

I would like to know if there is a way to contribute specifically to the reward being offered for tips leading to solving this crime. I see the reward has grown to $136,000 and I believe others would contribute in an effort to encourage anyone with knowledge about the suspects to come forward. If you have information about contributing to th reward for this case (not Crime Solvers in general), could you please post it?

I would like to appeal to both the "family" and "friends" of these two assailants that were behind
this horrific incident involving two beautiful young women last Friday evening, March 11, 2011.
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. And, someone else, whether it be a family member, or a friend,
knows too. PLEASE, I implore you to come forward and take responsibility for your actions by
admitting your guilt. To those that know who you are, how can you possibly not come forward?
To keep this information to yourself and out of the hands of the law would be a crime in and of
itself. Not to mention, that should you hide and/or protect these two people, you are willing to
carry this in your heart and soul, as well as to the grave. Is this really okay with you?

@Pamela Rizzoli- they will catch the morons that did this. I have full confidence in the MCPD. I just hope that, when caught, these 2 are put away forever. People like that cannot be rehabilitated. I didn't know Jayna, but it just breaks my heart to hear about things like this. Her family was on the news the other day and I saw the hurt and anguish. If they read this- I am truly sorry for your loss.
